Ma Thien Lanh valley is located in Thanh Tan commune, Tay Ninh town, which attracts visitors not only by its unspoiled nature but also by its unique name. The village elders of the S'tieng ethnic group explained that: "Ma Thien Lanh is a sacred territory of the devil, whoever dares to venture into it will also become a ghost". In addition, this name refers to “the dark jungle in the middle of mountains with many dangerous beasts”. According to the local people, Ma Thien Lanh valley has many poisonous reptiles, most of which are venomous snakes and giant pythons.

The valley is formed by three mountains, namely Ba Den, Heo and Phung. Ma Thien Lanh is hidden at an altitude of 50m above sea level, surrounded by immense forests, ranges of mountains and dreamy hillsides. In addition, the atmosphere here is always cool and pleasant, creating a feeling of peace and relaxation. With such natural conditions, this place is known as the "miniature of Da Lat of Southeast Vietnam".

The highlights of Ma Thien Lanh valley are the Golden stream, Ong Ho cave and Da lake, among which, the most prominent one is Da lake. To get here, you need to overcome steep slopes with unspoiled old bamboo forests. It is noted that this is an artificial lake and was formed during the quarrying process. The water in the lake is clear with gentle waves created by winds, which is like a unique charming ink-wash painting.

There is a very touching story explaining the name “Ba Den” of the mountain. Once upon a time, there was a girl called Ly Thi Huong, who was the daughter of Mr. Ly Thien - the governor of Trang Bang in the Nguyen Dynasty. At that time, in the village, there was a talented orphan called Le Si Triet, but he was raised by monk Tri Tan on the mountain. The boy had loved the girl for a long time, and one time, he had the opportunity to help Ly Thi Huong when she was in trouble on the mountain. After that, her parents promised to allow him to get married to their daughter, but in the chaotic times of the war, he had to enlist in the army, causing the two to be separated temporarily. During her stay at home, once she went to the mountain to worship the Buddha and visit the monk, but was arrested and raped. To protect her virginity, she committed suicide by jumping off a mountain edge. Once, she appeared in a dream of the monk Tri Tan in black clothes and told him the whole story. After waking up, the monk asked people to find her body for burial. Since then, the monk and following generations called her “Ba Den” (Black Lady), then gave that name to the mountain to show their respect towards her.

From a distance, Ba Den Mountain looks like a giant cone in the middle of the delta, but sometimes it is hidden under clouds. From the foot to the top of the mountain, there are many architectural complexes with temples, shrines, towers and pagodas, featuring the characteristics of Buddhist culture. The most prominent work is Linh Son Tien Thach pagoda - the place of worship of Ba Den - located on the top of the mountain. The pagoda was built in the 18th century, through many restorations and has the typical architecture of Vietnamese pagoda today. Notably, the Ba Den mountain festival is held on the 4th and 6th of the first lunar month every year with many interesting cultural activities, such as bathing and changing clothes for Ba Den statue, folk singing and incense offering.
