After 30 minutes traveling by boat on the river, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the bustling atmosphere of the morning market. The market operates from 4-5 am, but the most crowded time is from 6-8 am. Each boat will sell different items, from the fresh and delicious fruits of the West of Vietnam, to the household appliances for daily life. The owner of the boat will hang the selling item on a pole (which is regarded as a “beo” tree) so that buyers can easily recognize those items.

Ninh Kieu wharf - a beautiful space of Tay Do people
Located on the bank of the gentle Hau River, Ninh Kieu wharf (also called Ninh Kieu Park) was constructed in the 19th century, and it has been one of the typical cultural tourist destinations in Can Tho city, attracting travelers from all over the world. There is a saying in Vietnamese folk praising the beauty of Ninh Kieu wharf:
“Can Tho has Ninh Kieu wharf
With a beautiful river and many beauties”

Before taking the throne, Nguyen Anh traveled to the South. One day, his fleet followed the Hau River into the territory of Tran Giang (i.e. the ancient Can Tho). At night, the boat arrived at the position of the current Ninh Kieu wharf, and there were many lines of recitation, singing, the sounds of instruments and flutes. He gave many nice compliments for this charming river and named it Cam Thi Giang. This wharf was named Quai de Commerce by the French (Commercial Wharf). People around the wharf often call it Hang Duong, because there are rows of cottonwood trees along the riverbank. At the same time, this wharf is also called “Le Loi”, as the road along the riverbank was formerly known by this name. In 1957 under the Republic of Vietnam (the First Republic of Vietnam), the name Hang Duong was changed to Ninh Kieu.
Currently, Ninh Kieu Ben is always busy with ships and boats full of products from the Mekong Delta. Standing on Ninh Kieu wharf, you can see the largest cable-stayed bridge in Can Tho, Can Tho bridge, etc. Visiting this place at night, you can admire the sparkling river scenery when the city “lights up”. Restaurants, snacks and food areas in Ninh Kieu wharf will bring you to the “culinary paradise” of this land with many famous delicacies, such as coconut and ginseng, baked rice paper, rice noodles with crab and so on.
